The Christchurch Kidney Society (CKS) was formed in 1973, initially as the New Zealand Kidney, Dialysis and Transplant Society.

Our aim is to provide support for patients and families of patients who are either approaching or have already reached end-stage renal failure, including those who have received a successful transplant

The CKS is run by a committee of volunteers who all have connections with renal disease, either as patients or medical professionals.

We are proud to have a close working relationship with the Nephrology Departments at Christchurch Hospital and Kidney Health New Zealand. We also network with other renal patient support groups around New Zealand.

Renal
Educator

Becs Hayston

Becs joined the Christchurch Kidney Society (CKS) through her role with Kidney Health New Zealand as the South Island Renal Educator. In this role, she works closely with regional patient support groups such as CKS, GP practices, and DHB renal teams across the country.

Becs has limited availability at Christchurch Kidney Society and is available by prior appointment only. She supports patients and whānau within the kidney community who may benefit from extra support or education. Becs hopes to help bridge gaps in knowledge and support around kidney health for all ethnic groups across the South Island to produce better health outcomes.

With 17 years of renal nursing experience, Becs has a background in dialysis nursing, patient education, and patient support. She lives in Christchurch with her busy family of six and two dogs. Together they enjoy getting outdoors - skiing (dogs included), hiking, gardening, and travelling to experience different cultures.

If you would like to connect with Becs, please get in touch to arrange a suitable time.

Thanks
